Phir Jnr has been loaned by South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Bidvest Wits.

He joins another Malawian player and former Mighty Wanderers skipper Lawrence ‘Tico-Tico’ Majawa at the leading Gaborone side.

Phiri Jnr said he is “excited” to join Rollers and expect more game time.

“I know that I shall have to perform at my level best to book a place into the line-up top gain experience and game time, no options, and help the club reach the supporters’ objective,” the attacking midfielder told the club website.

Rollers chairman Water Kgabung said the club is “delighted” with the addition of the Malawian star.

Phiri has not played competitive club football since signing for Wits in July last year as he awaits his work permit.

According to Wits manager Paul Mitchel, Phiri Jnr will be loaned out until May “when his contract permit is expected to be ready.”

Phiri’s loan move will provide Malawi national team coach Ernest Mtawali some relief as he was worried about his fitness due to lack of game time.
