Phoya, Mijiga face-off in rerun Sunday

Ruling People’s Party (PP) has ordered a rerun of a controversial primary elections  in the Blantyre Rural East Constituency which pits sitting MP Minister of lands, Henry Phoya and Steve Mijiga who will square off on Sunday.

Another contender for the seat is Malawi Writers Union President, Sambalikagwa Mvona.

PP official results declared Phoya a loser to Mijiga.

Phoya had been declared winner earlier with over 5,000 votes before it was later discovered that there were irregularities with suspected rigging.

PP has since ordered a re-run this Sunday to settle the matter.

A veteran politician, Phoya has been a member of the constituency since winning through a by election.
