The three deacons, who were ordained priests were Paul Abraham, Juliano Absalom and Kondwani Pinji, while the two priests, who celebrated Silver Jubilee together with His Lordship Kanyama were Fr Gerald Bwebwa and Fr Gracian Kalim’mawa.

Presiding over the ceremony, Bishop Kanyama said it was significant day for the diocese and the entire Roman Catholic Church in Malawi.

Bishop Kanyama described the ordination of the three priests as a gift to the diocese which still requires many priests.

The Bishop called upon the newly ordained priests to dedicate their lives to God and to be humble to catholic faithful.

“There is a tendency to many priests that after being ordained instead of serving people and be humble they change colours like a chameleon by starting demanding good things from Christians.

“Let me remind you that in priesthood there is no wealth. If you want to live a comfortable life then choose something to do not in priesthood. You join priesthood to preach the word of God and serve people,” said Bishop Kanyama.

Bishop Kanyama also asked the newly ordained priests to adhere to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and stick to their celibacy status.

During the ordination ceremony, the three priests took their vows as priests and promised to remain faithful and obedient to the Bishop.

The ordination ceremony was also attended by Dedza District Commissioner, Juliana Lunguzi, who is a member of parliament in the district and there was also a sheik.

In his speech, Bishop Kanyama announced to the gathering that after further consultations, the ordination priests have been allocated to various parishes.

For instance, Fr Paul Abraham is going to Tsangano Parish, while Fr Juliano Absolom is going to Mtakataka parish.
