Police arrest Mulli employee for swindling company

Malawi Police have nabbed an employee for the country’s leading business conglomerate, Mulli Brothers Limited (MBL), on suspicion he swindled company money meant for buying farm produce.

The suspect, Bernard Msisi, 19, is alleged to have failed to account for K118 500 out of the K370 000 he was given to buy farm produce in Ntchisi District.

Msisi was employed as a seasonal buyer for the company stationed at Jere Village in the area of Chief Malenga in the district.

Police in the district confirmed arresting the suspect last Wednesday, August 28, after being on the run since July 6, 2013 when the incident occurred.

Msisi has been charged with theft by servant and was expected to appear at Ntchisi Magistrate Court this week for commencement of the case.

According to Mulli Brothers Limited Field Supervisor, Saidi Mussa, the suspected was employed in June this year to be buying assorted farm produce and he was given K370 000 on different occasions to use.

But when he (Saidi) went to give him additional money at Jere village where he was stationed, Msisi was no where to be seen.

The field supervisor was told by neighbours that the man had left days earlier for some unknown destination.

And after the matter was reported to police, they launched a man hunt until they captured him on August 28.

Msisi hails from Ndungunya Village in the area of Paramount Chief Mkhumba in Phalombe District.
