Police arrest Mzuzu man for abduction and sex attack
Malawi Police are keeping in custody 29 year old man, Boston Banda for allegedly abducting and defiling a 12 year old girl.
According to Mzuzu Police deputy spokesperson Cecelia Mfune, the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence between April 10 and 13, 2017 at Masasa area within the city.
It was reported that the girl went missing for three days and that her parents searched for her at her friends’ place where she usually goes but she was not there.
“However, in the course of the search, neighbours informed the girls’ parents that they saw her with the suspect,” Mfune said.
“Accompanied by members of community policing, the parents went to Banda’s house where upon seeing them, the girl tried to escape using the back door.
“The matter was reported to Police and the suspect was arrested.
“The girl was taken to hospital where medical findings established that penetration had occurred,” she narrated.
Meanwhile the suspect is in custody waiting to appear before the court of law to answer charges of abduction and defilement contrary to sections 136 and 138 of the penal code respectively, according to Mfune.
Banda hails from Kalungama Village, Traditional Authority Mwadzama in Nkhotakota District.
