Police arrest teenager for murdering 28-year-old

Kasungu Police are keeping in custody 19-year-old, Fred Chisale, for being suspected of killing a 28-year-old man before throwing him into Bua River in the district.

Police say Chisale, who hails from Kapera Village, Traditional Authority Santhe in the district is allegedly to have killed Westela Mvula following a fight the two engaged in.

Kasungu Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Burton Mathewe told Nyasa Times Monday, the incident happened on 18th September, 2013 around 19:00hrs.arrest

“The suspect and his friends went to Bua River to catch fish at around 19:00hrs. As they were busy with their task, they saw the deceased at a distance whom they thought was an intruder.

“Then Chisale decided to get closer to him in order to know his identity. On the contrary, the two started fighting and the suspect’s friends ran away. On the morning of 19 September, the deceased was found dead with his lifeless body floating in the waters of Bua River,” explained Mathewe.

The police deputy spokesperson said late Mvula’s body was found with a deep cut on the upper eyelid and a deep wound on the left arm.

Postmortem conducted at Kasungu District Hospital revealed the death occurred due to suffocation.

Meanwhile, the suspect is under Kasungu Police custody pending trial and will appear before court soon.

Late Mvula hailed from Thasa Village, Chief Santhe in Kasungu District.
