Police hunt for killer driver: Five people die in Ntcheu road accident

Five people have died and six others seriously injured after a lorry they were travelling in overturned near Doviko Trading Centre along Ntcheu-Tsangano road.

The five died on the spot in the morning of Thursday as  the 7 tonner lorry registration number SA1036 driven by 30 year-old Hanif Megha carried 30 passengers on board to Doviko market.

Ntcheu Police station spokesperson Gift Matewere said breaks of the vehicle developed a fault when the driver tried to apply them on a slope and the car eventually swerved to the verge where it overturned.

The deceased are Jacob Moyo 36, Namposi Daudi, Jacob James, 35, Manuel Domingo all from Ndagoma village and Semion of Eneya village TA Kwataine in Ntcheu.

Six seriously injured are admitted at Ntcheu district hospital.

Meanwhile, police are searching for the driver of the vehicle who is currently on the run.

According to Matewere, when arrested, the driver will answer charges of carrying unauthorised passengers and causing death by reckless driving.
