The Road Block Coordinator Assistant Superintendent Anitta Njanji, says the suspect Stewart M’dala was traveling to Zomba in a bus registration number BR 5967 belonging to National bus Company.

“Upon arrival at Chingeni road block, the officers found an expand suitcase containing loose Canabis sativa commonly known as Indian hemp weighing approximately 50 kilograms. Upon investigations, the officer discovered that the cannabis sativa belonged to the suspect Stewart M’dala,” says Njanji.

He says the suspect is in police custody waiting to appear before court where he will answer a case of being found in possession of Canabis Sativa without licence contrary to regulation 19(1) as read with section 4(a) of Dangerous Drug Act.

Stewart M’dala comes from Robertson village, Traditional Authority Mlumbe in Zomba district.

Last week police at the same road block also recovered a ‘check bag’ full of Indian hemp in a Premier Coach which was heading Blantyre from Mzuzu via Zalewa.

  18. Gabro says:

If we want to move out of this economic mess them canabis is the only way to go. The most profitable business in the land. Please legalise it for only 5 years and you will see the miracle, Malawi will be like Mexico

  19. Abk says:

The suspect is clean on this, he is just struggling to earn a living. Otherwise the real money is in CASHGATE!

  20. kukukuki says:

  21. Rodriguas Latata says:

    Recover? Where was it stolen?

  22. mary says:

We say impound not recover coz it did not belong to the police. Kkkkkkk

  23. Katundu ameneyo a Police amugawana. It’ just better to legalize the trade. It implies that section 19(1) and 4(a) requires one to have a licence. Where can people get that licence from since the constitution did not mention the whole process of this so called chamba herb. I also feel that there is a ready market in Zomba since there is a mental hospital which assures the general public that they can be taken care of when they go mad.

If you ask a zungu, What is the capital city of Malawi? They will say Nkhotakota because of the good arromatic flavoured herb which the big city produces. It is still a joke that Malawi can not benefit from the trade which is done without collecting taxes on it.

If it is Tobacco vs Kanundu the Kanundu wins because it doese not require D compound fertilizers to grow better. You can have more than 50 products from Chamba unlike Tobacco. If the farmers can be allowed to grow it with a licence and export it in a normal way then we could have a substitute to green gold. Alimi a nkhunda nonse, njere za chamba zimathandiza kuti nkhunda ziswane kwambiri. Komanso ameme mumafuna kuti tsitsi lanu litalike nkani yache ndi chamba basi. Chofunika ndi kusintha malamulo kuti Malawi alemere.

Big up ganger farmers in Karonga, Nkhotakota, Mzimba, Mangochi, Mulanje and Mwanza.

    Hot debate.

    1. tumpale says:

      zoona!

  24. Malawi gold smoker says:

Allow people to grow hemp and use it for both recreational and commercial use. Stop being daft and wasting police time and money for nothing.

  25. bongozozo says:

Your story clearly states that the hemp was in an expand suitcase but how come you have posted a picture of cartons with the label of G4S? If I was G4S I would have taken you to task.

  26. Batchala says:

With this on going court strike, you should have just negotiated the matter.

  27. Israel Difense Force says:

So who cares????? Instead of working on real criminal issues, you are busy supressing concerned Malawians who are selling chamba to foriegners and generate forex

  28. Indian says:

  29. Nabetha says:

FACT: The police didn’t recover the hemp but they confisicated it and arrested the suspect. To recover will mean that the hemp was stolen or got lost somewhere and it has been found. No further comment.
