Chanco MCP wing forms movement with ‘different approach’ for leadership change

Opposition MCP wing at Chancellor College has formed a ‘Mass Movement for Leadership Change’ in the party.
President of MCP Chanco win, Franklin Chilomba communicated the development in a memo sent to party president John Tembo and also the task force for leadership change of Leader of Opposition, Ephraim Kayembe.
“This movement aims at pushing for leadership change by means of civic educating the masses to appreciate the need for leadership change in MCP, conducting rallies and public addresses to shed more light on the need for leadership change,” explained Chilomba.
“We are currently carrying out a research nationwide to find out why MCP lost support at national level. As of now we have preliminary results and we will present the final results to the public very soon,” said Chilomba.
He said the results will help to enlighten Malawians (both members and non members of MCP) to see where MCP missed the way to power and what should happen to rebuild the party.
Chilomba said the movement will mobilize MCP supporters to demand resignation of MCP leaders in an event that a convention is not called.
“This will be done during the presentation of our research findings,” he said urging youthful Malawians who wish good for MCP to join the movement.
He said Chanco wing as the party’s recognized branch, has been observing misunderstandings in MCP between the “Mainstream” and the “Task Force” with keen interest.
“During our (Chanco MCP Wing) executive meeting held on Wednesday, 19th November, 2009, it was unanimously agreed that we call for meaningful change that will strengthen MCP but, of course, with a different approach to that of the MCP Task Force,” he said.
“We just don’t need change for its own sake but change as a means to success of the mighty MCP. But what is most important to note is that this meaningful change can only be realized if we restructure the leadership of the party starting from the top to bottom.”
The movement commended leaders of the Task Force, for realizing the need for leadership change in the party earlier but said they differ in the approach of making “loose ends meet”.
“In our view, we believe that “the Task Force” has taken a radical approach in realizing the leadership change in the party. “
On the election of leader of opposition in parliament, the movement said the changing of the standing orders was a move initiated by the Task Force to ensure that Tembo does not retain the position.
“The Task Force has successfully executed its plan to remove honourable Tembo out of the position. However, the Task Force is turning a blind eye over the assistance it is getting in parliament from the government.”
The movement pointed out that DPP government support to the Task Force is in no way intending to strengthen MCP, but rather to weaken it further so that it (DPP government) remains in power.
“Our position on the election of leader of opposition in the house should, however, not be interpreted as a move against honourable Kayembe (as leader of opposition), but we dispute the approach and modalities the Task Force has followed to attain the position. “
“As Chancellor College MCP wing we recommend that the Task Force must embark on a liberal approach in their fight for leadership change and not working on a ‘Pull Him down Approach’. At the same time, we ask honourable Tembo to indicate clearly that he will not contest as MCP presidential candidate in 2014,” reads the memo also signed by Louis Chankhwantha and McDonald Nkhuwa.
The movement called for a round table meeting of warring factions in MCP to agree on a convenient process for power transition and said MCP must call for a convention to elect its office bearers in preparation for 2014 General Elections.

Good approach, all that is needed is blending with the old and please dont forget the “Mzuzu Corner chaps”.
We will consider that and I dont think MCP can think of loosing anyone at this time. By and By we will come together after appreciating the need for change.

Adoption to change is a critical success factor-thanks to everybody who has this need in the party but as chanco wing has discovered it a changed approach is amust to make it a success and then win confidence of supporters back to MCP.Only if all youthfull politicians can rise up-politics of malawi can change,we need change and we can do it.
