DPP rejects Kaliati’s name
Foul-mouthed director of women in the ruling DPP, Patricia Kaliati was rejected when her name was proposed as deputy chief whip in parliament at the caucus held weekend in Lilongwe, Nyasa Times has established.
Members of DPP who attended the caucus said Kaliati who previously held the post of Information and Civic Education Minister was proposed to deputy chief whip by members refused saying is “arrogant.”
However, DPP members warmly and unanimously accepted the nomination of Anna Namathanga Kachikho to be the deputy chief whip.
Kaliati told close pals that she is not bitter to have been rejected upbeat that she has been assured by President Mutharika that she will make it in the new cabinet yet to be hired.
Goodall Gondwe who has been the country’s purse keeper for the last five years of economic recovery was unanimously endorsed to be Leader of the House.
A top DPP official said the party agreed to share power of government top post for all three regions.
“The President [Wa Mutharika] is from the southern region, the Vice President Right Hon Joyce Banda is from eastern region and the Leader or the House from the north while
Speaker nominee Henry Chimunthu-Banda is from the centre,” said the official.
DPP’s vice president Khumbo Kachali also was also picked as Chief Whip of the ruling party lawmakers.
While Dr George Chaponda will be deputy leader of the House.
