Joyce Banda to be thrown out of Mudi House
Government plans to evict Vice President Joyce Banda from her official Mudi Residence in Mandala, Blantyre, Nyasa Times understands.
However, the Vice President who has an official base in Lilongwe will be given another house in Blantyre.
Government insiders say Mudi House is undergoing refurbishment and that it will be given as a retirement home to President Bingu wa Mutharika when he leaves office in 2014.
Three has been bad blood recently between President Mutharika and the Vice President following reports she is positioning herself to succeed the President in the 2014 elections.
But the President is paving the way for his brother, Justice Minister Prof Peter Mutharika who has been getting favorable state media coverage unlike the vice president, to succeed him.
The vice president has been crippled in her operations until the media recently exposed the developments.
Malawi News recently reported that the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has not provided vehicles for a Principal Secretary to the Vice President’s office and other key staff to manage the affairs of the second most important political personality in the country.
The Vice President’s office has no fleet of vehicles and there is no controlling officer.
According to Malawi News, a senior deputy secretary currently heads the office of the Veep.
Willie Zingani, press officer for the Veep, recently told Malawi News that the only vehicles the Vice President uses are for her convoy, but not for office administration.
The Vice President publicly blasted state-run Television Malawi recently for giving her a blackout in their coverage of national news.
Following that, the Vice President has lately been covered by TVM after she officially complained to Information Minister Leckford Thotho about the matter.
