PP accuses Mutharika of nepotism: ‘Continues to appoint relations of DPP officials in Malawi foreign missions’

Owen Khamula – Nyasa Times

Peoples Party acting president Uladi Mussa has angrily lashed out at President Peter Mutharika to stop nepotism and tribalism after it has transpired that over half of those in Malawi foreign missions are wives, husbands and relatives of the ruling elite.

Agrina Mussa, a wife to Labour minister Henry Mussa is now being sent to Kenya to take up the place of Perks Ligoya who has been recalled.

Reverend  Mwanamvekha, brother to minister of Trade and Industry Joseph Mwanamvekha will now deputise Mussa at the embassy in Kenya.

Agriculture Minister George Chaponda, who was Foreign Minister, has several relatives flooded  in foreign missions, including at United Nation Malawi mission  in New York.

PP’s  Mussa said this was against the public reform rhetoric songs his administration is singing, saying it was unfair to recall people from the embassies just to fill it again with political patronage appointees.

“This is one step forward and one step backward. This shows the DPP government will never change. It is full of nepotism and tribalism. If anyone does not have connections to the DPP, he or she will never get a job in the public sector,” said Mussa.

Government says it is recalling 82 diplomats from its embassies as a cost cutting measure, saying it will save up to K3 billion a year in salaries and benefits and a further K2 billion in rentals and school fees for the diplomats children.

Actually Mussas daughter is in Embassy in Lusaka. Wachamba ngati uyo she’s daft and a whore. Kaliati and Dausis children are in London, Namondwes nephew is in Japan
So is Ben Phiris Sister. Mphepos son is in India. This is public information why are journalists failing to get the list. They’re civil servants and this is the time they’re recalling staff under the pretext of saving costs. Reforms and austerity my foot!
