People’s Party (PP) has described its Secretary General (SG) Paul Maulidi as a “confused man” who is succumbing to personal egos against what his party stands for.
The attack on Maulidi follows the SG’s decision of dragging the party, mainly its founder former President Joyce Banda to court for attempting to prevent him from contesting in the forthcoming by-elections slated for October 7.
The party advised him not participate, but he defied the orders and went ahead to present his nomination papers for Blantyre North Parliamentary race.
Maulidi, who has since been duly given a go ahead to contest on PP ticket by the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec), took his bid further when he sued Banda for attempting to block him from contesting.
The SG however hinted that he would withdraw if the competent court
of law tells him that party holds the mandate to stop anyone from contesting in an election.
But the party’s spokesperson Ken Msonda maintained that his party is not participating in the forthcoming by-elections, describing Maulidi as a “disgruntled, confused, desperate and frustrated person”.
Msonda also claimed that the party was not stopping anyone from contesting and that Maulidi was told to go ahead with his plans to contest in the by-elections.
“The party’s position is clear; we are not taking part in these by-elections or any future by-elections unless meaningful electoral reforms being proposed by the electoral stakeholders and some institutions are implemented, period,” said Msonda.
He further argued that Mec can never threaten or force the them to participate in an election “we have no trust” and “confidence in”.
“Mec lacks credibility to conduct credible election following the recent electoral fraud,” he added.
Meanwhile, Chancellor College based political commentator Joseph Chunga has advised the party to devise means that would be inclusive enough in its decisions.
Chunga also said if Mauldi was part of the party’s decision not to participate, he should have followed and respected the party’s stand.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
