Primary school learner in custody for attempted suicide

A standard 7 pupil from Ngulube Full Primary School at Chinsapo 2 in Lilongwe is in Police custody for attempting to kill himself.

Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Kingsley Dandaula identified the boy as Lawrence Changapalibe 15, from Chaoneka village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Changata in Thyolo district.

The Police said the suspect, is allegedly to be a troublesome boy was earlier during the day accused of assaulting his friend.

“The suspect’s father threatened to take up the matter to Police and upon hearing this, the boy later took a sharp metal object and cut himself deep on the neck with an intention of killing himself,” Dandaula said.

The suspect was taken to Likuni Mission Hospital where he was referred to the Kamuzu Central Hospital.

The Police have since said if the boy survives he will answer a charge of attempted suicide contrary to section 229 of the penal code.
