Project Child Malawi organises girls camp on sexual reproductive health

A local non-governmental organisation, Project Child Malawi has organised a three days girls camp in the capital city Lilongwe for sexual reproductive health training.

The ‘Adolescent Girls Health Camp’ is expected to kick-start on 27th July and will end on 30th July, 2015. The camp will be opened by the wife to the Malawi’s Vice President Mary Chilima.

Executive Director for Project Child Malawi, Mussa Zalira said that participants will be drilled on various topics that affect them such as sexual reproductive health.

” Among the activities during the camp, the participants will be trained Sexual Reproductive Health, mental health management and rights on access to essential health services.

” The activities will be facilitated by National Aids Commission, Farm Radio Trust and Girls Empowerment Network (GENET),” he said.

Zalira also said that participants will have the chance to interact with policy makers.

” We want to engage leaders in policy dialogue on issues of Sexual Reproduction. After grooming the girls in the first three days, they will be among panellists to push for concerted effort if policy
direction on Sexual Reproductive Health education in schools.”

He further said, ” this initiative is a turning point for adolescent girls rights advocacy, now that we will be holding it every year.”

According to Zalira over 280 adolescent girls (14-18 years old) are expected to attend the
camp.

The girls will be selected by District Youth Officer(s) and each district will have a reprensentive of 10 girls.

The three day camp will be sponsored by the Southern African Aids Trust(SAT) and United Nations Children’s Fund(UNICEF).

Project Child-Malawi is a Charitable, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) for grassroots individuals and communities with an interest of enhancing and protecting human health (HIV/AIDS-PMTCT) and development of the locals in Malawi particulary children, women and young people.

It’s about time!! Nepman ndi anzake ayimba kale, koma na lelo! But we need to open about sex and even our private parts. There’s nothing golden about a penis and a pair of balls (testicles if you like). Or a clitoris and vagina for that matter. These are all biological components of the human body. They have functions and the only way to profit from them (just as we profit from our hands and mouths) is to understand how they work.
