Prophet Bushiri’s  ‘Bible Up-Close’– Honouring God with your time

This is a topic that many people deviate from, but very crucial because it addresses a major problem which affects Christians today.Bushiri column

One of the most important facets of any relationship which happens is the ability to spend time with the other party. In so doing you allow yourself to learn more and understand the other party on a deeper and more intimate level.

Time is precious. It is all we have in this life. As it is said in the book of Ecclesiastes that  there is an appointed time for everything. A lot of us tend to have our daily schedules crowded with deadline after deadline. Thoughts linger everyday on whether or not God needs our time or that we just need His time when in problems and going through afflictions. Many a times, we tend to wonder if we can truly redeem time for our creator.

Seasons bring along their timely attachments just like days, months and years. The opportunities that life brings also have time attached to them. What you desired the time you were a child may not be what you desire at this present moment.

First, if we want to honor God with our time, we have to realize that the time we live in is not our own, but belongs to God alone. Certainly God has given us this freedom of choice, but God teaches us through His Word in Psalm 24 verse 1 which says and I quote: “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live”. The verse clearly informs us that all that is in this world including ourselves and what we have belongs to God.

One of the greatest ways to show our gratitude to God, therefore, is to use our time wisely so as to honour Him. Mankind is under obligation to exercise proper use and stewardship of the time in efforts to taking a path of righteousness. It is the discipline and stewardship of your time that is important.

How do we define our time on the things we do and the things that God wants us to do? For long, many have come up with ways to encourage Christians to spend more time with God. We have been made to believe that saying morning and evening prayers is the best way to give God our time, but what about the time we can give to Him throughout the day with our actions and intentions?

In truth, God wants our time always. He wants you to be in constant communion with Him, be it we are walking or talking God must be a part of your  consideration. When we talk, He wants our time and we can abide by that through preaching love to others. Our actions should also carry the signature of God when we do to others what we would love them to do unto us.

God owns everything, and God distributes it to us according to His wisdom. Whether it is our job, our money, our abilities, our personality, even our time, is a gift from God and we have to make the best of it in His ways.

I leave you with Ephesians 5:15-16 which teaches: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,  making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

Prayer

Father God, I put the life of every person reading this in your hands. May you be the centre of their time. Their talk, walk and all actions should be coloured with your expectation.

I denounce every attempt by the devil to contaminate the souls of your people by stealing the time You allocated to them. You alone we honour and you alone we give our time to. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
