Raging waters sweep away ambulance, 8 nurses rescued in Mzimba
Eight nurses and a driver have been rescued after the ambulance they were travelling in to a funeral was swept away at South Rukuru bridge.
Mzimba Hospital District Health Officer Lumbani Munthali confirmed the incident, saying the nurses were going to attend a funeral of their fellow nurse at Malidade.
“As the ambulance was in the middle of the bridge, a big wave of water suddenly swept the ambulance,” said Munthali.
He said some men who were near the scene of the accident, dived into the waters and managed to rescue the eight nurses and the driver.
A tractor then towed the submerged ambulance vehicle out of the South Rukuru river.
