Red Lions secure semi-final slot in Malawi Carlsberg Cup

Red Lions whacked Evirom 5-0 in the replay of the Carlsberg Cup quarter-final match at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre played on Wednesday.

The two teams had to replay as a result of the violence during their abandoned match at the same venue last Friday.

Lions’ Thomas Makombwa was the first to open the  score sheet towards the end of the first half.

Boniface Kaulesi scored the second goal before Loti Chawinga ‘s brace.

Lumbukani Mwambene made it 5-0, just 3 minutes before the end of the game.

Before the game, the two teams had to settle a joint fine amounting to K534 000 (US$1,663) to meet costs of staging the replay such as security and officiation and renovations on the damages that occurred during their abandoned match.

Reds have also been fined an extra K200 000 after being found guilty of abuse of power following the decision to bring extra soldiers to join the fracas.
