Revenge not in my dictionary – Mutharika

President Prof. Peter Mutharika has said Malawi is one family and as the nation’s father, he will be everyone’s President irrespective of one’s political affiliation or for whom one cast their vote.

The new head of state was speaking Wednesday afternoon at Biwi Triangle in Lilongwe during a whistle stop tour on his return from Blantyre two days after his inauguration.

In his speech, Mutharika said Malawi is one family and only through this oneness and unity can the country get on the right track towards development.

He said; “This is our Malawi and it does not matter which party from which you come or who it is that you voted for so let’s work together and I will be everyone’s president because you are all my children.”

Stressing his point, he added that he is ready to work with chiefs, faith groups, Civil Society Organisations and youth groups to achieve the country’s development goal.

On a lighter note, the new President said although he had been mistreated before through various kinds of trials including treason charges, he has put all that behind him saying, “revenge is not my dictionary”.

“Revenge is childish politics and it does not exist in my dictionary and that is why I have put behind all the mistreatment I received because I want to focus on rebuilding this nation,” he said.

Mutharika has since reiterated his commitment to working with the other eleven contestants who were also in the presidential race in a quest to enhance more effective development policies and strategies.

During his inauguration speech, the first citizen had acknowledged hearing some interesting development ideas from his counterparts during the presidential debates in the campaign period which he said he would love to adopt and he has disclosed that he will, starting next week be meeting each one of them to discuss ways of how they can work together.
