Robbers steal K200,000: One killed, another arrested
Three armed robbers on Sunday night attacked Engen service station shop at Kandodo corner shop in Blantyre but only one of them managed to escape with K200,000 and mobile phone airtime after a civilian police officer foiled the act.
One of the robbers was arrested on spot while the other one was beaten to death by an angry mob as their accomplice managed to bolt with the cash. The robber also went away with undisclosed amount of mobile phone airtime.
Southern region deputy Police spokesperson Beatrice Mikuwa, disclosed in an interview that the robbers had threatened a sales lady in the shop with a pistol but was saved by a civilian officer who had gone into the shop to purchase bread.
“The one we arrested is currently in custody. It was one of our officers who was in civilian clothes who foiled the robbery though one of them managed to escape with the stolen cash,” said Mikuwa.
She said currently they are hunting for the one who is on the run.
The robbery at Engen has happened a week after armed robbers stole K82 million at Indebank top Mandala branch.
