Robbers steal over K1.4mil, fertilizer coupons at Admarc in Thyolo
Robbers have stolen MK 1,432,010 and 257 coupons of Nitrogen Phosphorus Potassium (NPK) fertilizer at Khonjeni Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) selling point in Thyolo district.
The robbery took place on the night of January 21 to 22, 2016 when a group of unknown criminals attacked the guards on duty that night and tied them up.
It is said that the guard who was armed with a gun had been sleeping in a nearby room when the incident took place.
The alleged criminals are then said to have proceeded to break into the Admarc where they stole the money and coupons which are stamped Khonjeni Admarc.
Police Public Relations Officer, Edith Kachotsa told Malawi News Agency the guards have since been detained for questioning.
“The robbery took place on the night of 21 to 22 January at Khonjeni where K1, 432,010 including 257 coupons stamped Khonjeni Admarc were stolen. We have detained the guards for questioning as investigations are in progress.
“As Police, we are investigating the matter to arrest the culprits who will answer to charges of robbery once apprehended,” said Kachotsa.
Kachotsa said she could not divulge the names of the guards saying this is an ‘active’ investigation.
