Roza Mbilizi, Mzuza clinch Airtel Malawi golf championship

Roza Mbilizi and Yohane Nzuza on Friday emerged the winners for the 2014 Airtel Malawi Golf Tournament at the Blantyre Sports Club (BSC.)

Mbilizi  scooped the Women’s  Division with 10 long drives and 34 points. Lucy Ganiza came second.

Nzuza posted 21 longest drive and 42 points in the Men’s division which had prominent golfers such as  Paul Chidale, Steve Chisale, Charles Merrick and third-positioned John-Gift Mwakhwawa.

Speaking during the prize presentation ceremony Airtel Malawi’s Chief Commercial Officer Charles Kamoto said they were impressed with the turn up of golfers and stressed that the game is improving in the country.

“This is what has been driving us to continue associating with the game .Let me therefore pledge that Airtel Malawi will continue organising such tournaments to show our appreciation from the support we are getting from you our customers,” said Kamoto.

Kamoto said it is Airtel Malawi’s social obligation to partner with government in several developmental initiatives including development of sports.

Some winners in the men Divisions were Bushir Sherrif and John Mwakhwawa,who scooped third slot.

Board Chairman of Airtel Malawi, Alex Chitsime assured the golfers that next year they are intending to extend the tournament to Zomba and Nchalo.

He also disclosed that Airtel Malawi is focusing on providing a 3G network and is striving to
improve and expand on data as recently it has shown that many people are using data apart from voice calls.

Airtel Malawi also made a donation of K150, 000 to Blantyre Sports Club  to go in the maintenance of the golf course.
