Rumphi mandasi seller wins K15m house in NBS Bank promo

A small scale entrepreneur in Rumphi District, Northern Malawi, has started the year 2014 with a stroke of luck after emerging the winner of a grand prize in the NBS Bank win a house promotion.

Trawinner Mtegha, a mandasi business lady from Chinyolo area in the district, is now a proud owner of a K15 million worth modern house courtesy of the NBS Bank.

The ‘win a house promotion’ started in June, 2013 and ended up in September 2013 where NBS Bank customers- both new and old- were supposed to deposit K50 000 into their account and maintain the deposit for three to four months.

Secondly, current account and fixed deposit customers were supposed to deposit a total of K20 000 a month to stand a chance of winning the house or other prizes.

A part from the grand prize of a house, which was built at a location of the winner’s choice, there were several other consolation prizes which NBS Bank had been splashing out to its customers such as iron sheets, K150 000 and K50 000.

The aim of the promotion, according to NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer, Bernadette Mandoloma, was to recruit more new customers.

The official handover of the magnificent house took place at Katoto Township in Mzuzu City next to the newly belt Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM).

Speaking during the ceremony, Mandoloma said the main objective of the promotion was to promote saving culture amongst the banks customers as most Malawians lacked that spirit.

She added that NBS being a caring bank gave out the K15million to accomplish its motto (Malawi’s caring bank) and also to thank its customers throughout the country for banking with NBS.

NBS Bank started operating in Malawi some 50 years ago having rolled out its financial transactions in 1964 and since then it has undergone several rebranding process.

The bank has 38 service centres and 82 Auto Teller Machines (ATM) across the country- Nsanje to Chitipa.

Soon, according to Mandoloma, the bank will launch the Bank pafupi brand whose target is to reach the grass root level customers.
