RVG releases Malawi squad for Comoros: Gaba in, Sulumba out

Malawi national football team coach Ronny Van Geneugden has released a 26-man squad to face Comoros Island in the preliminary round of African Cup of Nations scheduled for Malawi’s capital Lilongwe June 10.

Making the announcement during a news conference at Chiwembe Villageon Tuesday RVG has named 9 professionals including from Mozambique and Tanzania based who were overlooked by previous coaches.

He said the professionals would be expected to join local players by Thursday.

RVG has named Charles Swine of H B C Song, Christopher John Banda of Ferroviario de Nampula, Richard Mbulu of Costa do Sol from Mozambique and Owen Chaima of Tanzania.

But there is no room for Mozambique’s Mocambola second leading goal scorer Schumacher Kuwali of Ferroviario de Nampula.

Among the players dropped include Mighty Wanderers defender Lucky Malata, Brighton Munthali, Young Chimodzi Jr, Chimango Kayira, Muhammed Sulumba.

Experienced Joseph Kamwendo, Robin Ngalande have also been sidelined.

Five South Africa based professionals Gabadinho Mhango of PSL champions Bidvest Wits, Platinum Stars midfield duo of Gerald Phiri and Robert Ng’ambi and Golden Arrows defender Limbikani Mzava have been called.

The coach is optimistic that the team would produce a positive result saying all the players are excited with the call up.

The following is thefull list of the squad:

Goalkeepers;

Lehman Nthala (Kamuzu Barracks), Swine, Chaima and Ernest Kakhobwe (Nyasa Bullets).

Defenders:

Denis Chembezi (Wizards), Stanley Sanudiand Francis Mulimbika (Be Forward Wanderers), Mzava, Pilirani Zonda, Yamikani Fodya and John Lanjesi (Nyasa Bullets), Chisomo Nyoni (Silver Strikers).

Strikers and wingers: Binwell Katinji (Silver Strikers), Yamikani Chesterand Jabulani Linje ( Be Forward Wanderers), Dailitso Sailesi ( Nyasa Bullets), Innocent Bokosi ( Red Lions), Micium Mhone ( Blue Eagles), Christopher John Banda, Frank Banda (HBC).

The players will leave on Monday for Lilongwe with a trimmed squad.

I support what the Coach has done to call players from different clubs rather than concentrating to two clubs.

Duncan Nyoni of Silver Strikers is a good player. Mufuna mudzamuyitane ku squad akadzalowa wanderers kapena Bullets?

He is just recovering from injury. Fazili and Young Chimodzi have also advised previous coaches not to rush him and Thuso Paipi

Bad reporting Sulumba was not called during the preliminary call up how come you are mentioning him that he has been dropped. Atolankhani aku Malawi mukapanda kulemba zokhunza BB players simumva bwino
