Scalded Unilever manager still battles for his life: Attacker given bail

Unilever Malawi Engineering Manager Clifton Kumboyo Kuliyani is still battling for his life in the intensive care unit at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital from the burns he sustained after his colleague Security Manager at the same company, Gift Kamanga scalded him with hot water over a grudge on work related issues on December 15.

Company sources say Kamanga had deep rooted grudge against Kumboyo after an investigation which Kumboyo chaired early 2013 faulted Kamanga on security problems which the company has been experiencing.

However, Kamanga who was immediately arrested soon after the incident has now given court bail, pending the recovery of Kumboyo for the continuation of the case.

Unilever Country Manager, Chikondi Ng’ombe told local press that the company is doing what it can to provide assistance to the victim.

Ng’ombe has dismissed reports that company has engaged the foreign expert to investigate the matter.

“The engagement of external assistance to support Unilever local operations on any specialist work is something what Unilever routinely does globally,” he says.
