Second chance for ‘Nyerere’ to move into top 3: Malawi TNM Super League

After blowing up a golden opportunity to move second on the TNM Super League log table last Saturday, inconsistent Mighty Wanderers have another chance to break into the top three as they host struggling Evirom at Balaka Stadium on Wednesday.

Last Saturday, ‘Nyerere’ blew up a chance to go second on the chart when they played a goal-less draw against bottom-placed Mzuzu United at the Balaka ground.

A win against the relegation threatened outfit from Mzuzu would have pushed the Nomads from 33 to 36 points, ahead of the six teams in-front of them on the current log table but that disappointing home result left the Standard Bank Knock-Out Cup champions languishing on the eighth position.

Tomorrow’s midweek fixture has availed another opportunity for Nyerere to move from the unenviable eighth position to third. This is if they manage to collect maximum points against Evirom.

The second spot is, however, not guaranteed for the Nomads as third-placed Silver Strikers, who overtook Wanderers after beating Kamuzu Barracks 2-1 will also be in action against Mponela United at home.

Another mid-week fixture involves ninth-placed Mafco and Mzuzu United at Chitowe Stadium. Defeat at Chitowe will put the strugglers from northern region a point away from relegation- thanks to the Nomads who offered them a vital point at Balaka.

Zomba based Red Lions lead the pack with 40 points from 22 games followed by another military giant Moyale Barracks, who have 35 points from the same number of games. Silver also have 35 points from 21 games but their goal difference falls short by two against that of Moyale.
