Seven Fifa refs fail fitness test in Malawi

Fifa Physical Fitness held on Saturday  at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre produced shocking results with seven Fifa ranked referees  being among the eight who failed of the 35 participants.

But it is tragic for Fifa assistant referee Jones Chimeza, who also failed the national fitness test a month as he will no longer stand a chance to return to the international scene after also failing a retake.

Other renowned Fifa assistant referees Kelvin Ngolanga, Victor Nkhata have also failed but have a chance to fight their way back if they will success in a retake.

The three assistant referees have been joined by renowned women’s counterparts Happiness Mbandambanda, Linda Chikuni, Mercy Mziya and referee Grace Msiska.

The women’s Fifa ranked, who have always done well in the past, are the hardest hit.

Only two women’s referees Bernadettar Kwimbira Mzika, who is an athlete and Chikondi Mpindo managed to overcome the hurdle.

But all men’s Fifa referees ;  Jones Makhuwira, Anthony Raphael, Denis Ngulube, Duncan Lengani, have passed.

Assistant referees Innocent Kaundula, Clemence kanduku and Feston Kusekuse have made it.

One of the Fifa assistant referees described the resulst as disaster.

“This is disaster. Out of 35 participants nine including eight Fifa referees have failed.”

The exercise was done to come up with the list of 2014 Fifa referees for Malawi.
