Sex offendor commits suicide to escape justice in Malawi
Gripped with fear of becoming a jail bird, Yesaya Kalitsiro of populous township of Ndirande has committed suicide to escape justice after sexually assaulting his cousin.
Kalitsiro aged 27 from Mataka village, T/A Likoswe in Chiradzulu hanged himself in a tree at Ndirande forest, Blantyre Police assistant Publicist, Lameck Thembachako has said.
“Kalitsiro was suspected to have defiled his aunt’s daughter aged 13 (name withheld) on March 29, 2013.
“According to recorded statement from his uncle, Tonny Kalitsiro the suspect (Yesaya Kalitsiro) had defiled the girl on March 29, 2013, and since that time, he had been on the run up until he was found hanging in a tree at Ndirande forest,” explained Thembachako.
The police publicist said the law enforcers’ visit to the crime scene found empty sachets of termic poison in his pocket suspected to have been taken before hanging himself.
The dead body was taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where doctors pronounced dead upon arrival.
“Postmortem and examination of the body of Yesaya Kalitsiro were conducted and results show that he died due to strangulation caused by suicide by hanging. The girl was also referred to One Stop Centre at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for medical examination and treatment and results proved she was indeed defiled”.
