Sexagenarian defiles granddaughter in Malawi, pays her MK15
Malawi Police in the northern region district of Mzimba have arrested a 60 year old man for defiling his 9 year old grand daughter.
Mzimba Police spokesperson Sergeant Gift Nyirongo told Nyasa Times that the incident happened on 16 June at Alick Gausi village in the district.
Nyirongo said during the material day the suspect Lali Gausi has since been locked up at Mzimba Police station.
He said Gausi found the girl playing with her friends and invited her to escort him to his house.
”But along the way, the suspect dragged the girl to the nearby bush and defiled her,” said Nyirongo.
He said the suspect gave the girl K15 to remain mute.
However, the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents who later reported the matter to the village headman leading to the arrest of the suspect.
According to Nyirongo medical examination conducted at Mzimba district hospital confirmed that the girl was defiled.
The spokesperson said the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of defilement contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
The suspect hails from Alick Gausi village in the area of T/A Mzikubola in Mzimba district.
Defilement in Mwanza
In a related development, Malawi News Agency reports that Police in Mwanza have arrested a 30 year old man on allegation of having sex with an under aged girl who is currently having a two month pregnancy of the suspect.
Mwanza Public Relations Officer Victoria Chirwa said on Wednesday that Deniford Vukutu was arrested on June 9 this year when police got a report from the victim’s father who alleged that his 12 year old daughter (name withheld) had been sexually abused.
She said the girl told police that Den (the suspect) proposed to her in August last year and promised to marry her adding; “since then, they have been having sex until Sunday last week when his wife caught them in the bush.”
Chirwa said the victim who was schooling in Standard five at Tsupe Primary school admitted to have been doing sex with Vukutu and she has a two month pregnancy.
The police publicist said police referred the girl to Mwanza District Hospital for pregnant test but she did not succeed because there is no testing equipment at the district hospital and was referred to Banja La Mtsogolo clinic where results proved that she was indeed holding a two moth pregnancy.
She said police have apprehended the suspect who will appear before the court to answer a charge of defilement which is contrary to section 138 of the penal code.
The section state that any person who carnally knows any girl under the age of sixteen shall be guilty of a felony and shall be liable to imprisonment for life.
Both The suspect and the victim hails from Minjale Village in Traditional Authority Govati in Mwanza.
