Share trading drops on Malawi Stock Exchange

Increasing returns hovering around 40 percent on the money market has led to a decrease of share trading activity on the Malawi Stock Exchange (MSE).

A review report for the month of April, 2013 shows that a total of 72.1 million shares were transacted at a total consideration of K381,929,273.80 (US$934,205.18) in 92 trades.

But in the previous month, March 2013, the market transacted a total of 2.07 billion shares at a total consideration of K2.6 billion (US$6,722,504.48) in 60 trades reflecting a -96.52 percent decrease in terms of share volume.

The market registered an average daily volume of 3,436,417 shares in April 2013 compared to 98,867,860 shares in March 2013.

The average daily turnover for April 2013 was K18,187,108.28 (US$44,485.96) compared to K128,316,940.81 (US$320,119.26) for the previous month, reflecting a decrease of -85.83 percent.

Main market indicator, the Malawi All Share Index closed the month of April 2013 at 6360.60 points compared to 6344.58 points in March 2013.
