Shocking revelations on newlywed death: ‘Electric shock at Lilongwe hotel pool’

The death of newlywed Chiyembekezo Chikafa’s at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel’s swimming pool has been attributed to an electric shock at the pool.

A family member, who spoke on conditions of anonymity, said Chikafa, who was working at Eco Bank and just married Sevi Mmanga at Lilongwe Golf Club,  knew  very well how to swim.

He said it was also established that he died after a second swimming session in the absence of a pool attendant who had left after being convinced that the deceased could swim without any supervision.

“He knew how to swim and the incident happened after he led his wife to swim in the pool under the watchful eye of a pool attendant,” he said.

He said the deceased could not have suffocated if he was in tight spot.

“It is also surprising that he died when the swimming pool is not as deep. He is tall and could have easily managed to come out of the pool,” he said.

This is the third person to die in the past three years but this issue has come into the limelight because they were newlywed.

Inside sources said the first two incidents did not attract any suspicion because they were not booked at the hotel.

Efforts to talk to the hotel officials were unsuccessful.

Chikafa, 27, had just married Sevi Chikafa Mmanga, 25 when he drowned while swimming in a pool on Sunday at Sunbird Lilongwe Hotel.

Chikafa was working at Eco Bank while his wife Sevi Chikafa Mmanga works for NBS bank and both hail from Mtambo Village, T/A Mlumbe in Zomba.
