Silver date Civo in LL High 4 bonanza final

Capital City rivals Silver Strikers and Civil Service United (Civo) are set to clash in the final of the Lilongwe High 4 Bonanza after seeing off their opponents in the tournament’s opening games played Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Civo edged Epac 1-0 while Silver, the Bankers defeated Kamuzu Barracks 5-3 after post-match penalties.

New signing Peter Katsonga was responsible for the downfall of Njenjete, having come off-the bench to score the winner in the 69th minute. The youngster came in for wasteful Gerald Nkungula, who missed a penalty earlier in the first half.

Civo’s assistant coach Beggie Mwagomba, whose side had a number of new faces from the lower leagues said he was pleased with the victory considering Njenjete had been giving his side nightmares in previous encounters.

His counterpart Audlo Makonyola, who has just been roped in by Epac expressed satisfaction with his charges, saying the side had the potential withstand the heat in the forth-coming TNM Super League season despite losing about 10 key players to other clubs.

In the second game, KB went ahead just 15 minutes into the game through Kelvin Hanganda’s spot kick awarded by referee Anord Maseko following a foul by Silver’s new recruit Michael Ntonya on Manase Chiesa.

Silver were also awarded a penalty two minutes after recess following a foul by Diof Simaoni on Chawanangwa Kaonga. Ndaona Daisi converted the spot kick to level the scores.

The two-teams were still tied at 1-all after 90 minutes and the game went straight into the shoot-outs, which saw KB’s first penalty by former Silver left back Mustafa Salimu saved by new signing Blessings Kamiza, formerly of Evirom United in the bankers’ goals.

Silver converted all their first four penalties before KB goalkeeper Lehman Nthala shot straight at Kamiza to hand Silver a 5-3 vitory.

The bankers face their city rivals Civo in the final at the same venue on Sunday while KB and Epac are expected to curtain-raise the final match. Winner of the bonanza will walk away with K1 million.
