Silver ends Blue Eagles unbeaten run: TNM Malawi Super League

Silver Strikers on Sunday ended league leaders Blue Eagles unbeaten run after beating the Area 30 cops 2-1 in a tensed and thrilling encounter played at the Silver Stadium.
Goals in each half from Matthews Sibale and a beautiful left footed volley scored from a rebound by Thusso Paipi was enough to give the Bankers the match needed three points.
This was the first time for the Eagles to drop points after winning all their opening six games in the 2016-2017 soccer season.
Despite losing, the Eagles still remain at the summit of the log table with 18 points while Silver have moved to second position.
Eagles defeat comes barerly few days after they knocked the Bankers out of the on going Presidential Cup by 4-2 through post match penalties.
Silver Strikers coach Lovemore Fazili expressed excitement after the final game in Sunday’s encounter.
He said his emphasis in sharpening their striking force yielded results as they were able to create several scoring opportunities and converting some into goals.
“The game was very difficult only that we put much effort. Everything we told the players they managed to apply”.
“It is not easy, it is a tough season but we will fight hard to collect more points in our next assignments. The battle is still on and we need to fight up to the end,” said Fazili.
On his part Blue Eagles Team Manager Gabriel Chirwa confessed his team came second best.
“Yes indeed the unbeaten run has ended today but we still have time and we don’t lose hope. They created several chances that is why they managed to get goals,” said Chirwa.
