Silver forfeit points, fined: Mgangira banned

The Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has  fined Silver Strikers K500,000 and made the defending champions forfeit points for the game against Moyale Barracks after causing abandonment of their TNM Super League match.

On 27th July, 2014,the Bankers played  Moyale Barracks at Mzuzu stadium where  in the 85th minute when the match was  abandoned before the required 90 minutes at the time the scores were 1-1.

What led the abandonment of the match was a penalty which was awarded to Moyale in the 85th Minute after a handball by a Silver player Blessings Tembo.

Silver Technical panel and the players refused to continue with the game demanding the referee to rescind his decision on the penalty to Moyale.

After 10 minutes of waiting the referee ended the match.

Sulom requested reports from all the concerned stakeholders to establish the cause of the abandonment and make a determination on the matter.

Upon receipt of the reports from all the stakeholders, Sulom Northern Region Disciplinary Committee chaired by Chiza Nyirongo convened on the 30th July, 2014 at Mzuzu Hotel to hear the matter.

The Committee considered reports from Referee of the match  George Aziz Nyirenda, the teams, stewards, Police, Sulom officials on duty as well as the Match Commissioner.

In its determination,Sulom states that there was a charge of disorderliness at match contrary to Article 21(3) of TNM Super League Rules and Regulations as read together with Section 2 Article 48 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code

“Due to the disorderliness at the match caused by Silver Strikers refusal to continue with play the match is forfeited as per Sulom Rules and Regulations Article 18. The committee awards Moyale three points and three goals to nil as per Sulom Rules and regulations article 18 as read with FIFA Disciplinary code article 31.

“On being found guilty of causing the abandonment Silver Strikers FC, hereby fined the sum of MK 500,000.00 to be paid before the next official game,” reads the verdict.

The Bankers assistant coach Peter Mgangira was also punished for misconduct and  has been banned from the dressing room,  technical area , touchline for one year.

Sulom also faulted referee George Aziz Nyirenda for failing to stamp authority before , during and after the game.
