Silver lose to Blantyre United: Malawi TNM Super League

Anthony Banda’s brace in the first half was enough for Blantyre United to prune Silver Strikers 2-1 in an entertaining TNM Super League encounter on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium.

Banda netted the first goal in the 39th minute on a spot kick when Tizgobere Kumwenda was tripped in the box by Lameck Kachimanga.

The former Mighty Wanderers striker then made it two  on the dot of first half  with a header from a Kumwenda’s  well taken cross from the right.

Come second half, Frank Banda pulled one back for the Bankers in the  63 rd minute .

The Bankers, however, tried to find an equalizer but Blantyre United defence was too solid to be unlocked for the second time.

Blantyre United coach Elijah Kananji hailed his troops for collecting three points while Silver Strikers coach Stain Chirwa conceded that his team performed badly.

Chirwa was left bamboozled with the loss.

“ I can’t believe we didn’t win,” he said.

Chirwa has no doubt Silver will recover to play a prominent role in the title defence.
