Silver Strikers FC players reportedly staged a strike over low appearance payments during the two day Be Forward bonanza which took place over the weekend.
The Bankers beat fellow Lilongwe giants Epac F.C 1-0 to emerge champions and went home with a K2 Million prize.
According to Nyasa Times sources, the players were paid K2, 500.00 each as appearance fee for the two days the bonanza was played.
Silver Strikers Club Chairman Macdonald Mafuta Mwale confirmed in an interview with a local radio station [about the strike] but described the issue as a minor.
Mwale lamented that the money was offered by the organizers.
“To our side we will talk to the players so that we can give them extra money for their appearance but this is a sad development.
“It is not only our players who are complaining but also players from other clubs who participated; it is not enough give the players such an amount after playing for two days.” said Mafuta Mwale.
He however also expressed disappointment with how the gate collections were shared to the clubs.
It is reported that over K8 million was realized but the clubs were given only K150, 000.00
“I don’t know the exact figure that was realized but what am hearing is that it is K8 Million plus so it is not own for clubs to be given K150, 000.00 from the gate collections. What I see is that such tournaments are not fair to players” explained Mafuta Mwale.
Reacting to the claims, one of the organizing committee officials Rashid Mtelera distanced Be forward to the claims of being unfair on players.
“We as organizers did not sit down and promise to give the players appearance fee, what we said was that we will only settle for travelling, meal and accommodation expenses
“Some of the players might be speaking out of ignorance they better consult those who were representing their respective clubs during the meetings prior to the bonanza and ask them what we agreed,” Mtelera said.
Through various social media, several players have been complaining about what they call “poor organization” of the just ended bonanza.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
