Silver promotes four players from reserves

Malawi’s top flight TNM Super League defending champions Silver Strikers have recruited four players from its reserve side.

The four players are strikers Jimmy Ukonde and Amadu Uladi, defender Jafali Mponda and midfielder Fyson Mtengula who also plays upfront.

Ukonde made his first appearance in the Silver squad and a debut of  Super League after he was featured towards the end of the game against Blue Eagles  while Amadu Uladi made a first-team appearance  when was featured in a high tempo match against Civo in a Capital City derby last Saturday which ended 3-0 in favour of Silver.

Silver Strikers Club Chairman Macdonald Mafuta Mwale told Nyasa Times  that they executive is happy with coach Franco Ndawa’s initiative of recruiting players from the reserve side rather than spending huge sums of money buying players who already made their names.

Ndawa: Recruiting new talent

“Mr. Ndawa has come up with a good initiative,” said Mafuta Mwale.

“We have been spending a lot of money buying players and the path we are taking now will ease such problems,” he added.

He however described the recruited players as talented.

“They have a bright future and we rate them highly that is why they have been featured in big games.” he said.

He further described Ndawa as a brave coach who is able to take a risk for the betterment of the club.

“Previously, our technical panel has been afraid of changing the team or bring in players from the reserve because they were under pressure to produce results but Mr. Ndawa is not afraid” said Mafuta Mwale.

On his part, Ndawa said he noticed great talent in the reserve side immediately after landing at Silver.

“When I arrived here, I noticed huge talent in the reserves as well,” he said.

Silver Strikers previously lost a number of good players who were snatched by other clubs because they were not given a chance to undergo trials in the senior side.

Some of the players include Martin Masoatheka (Civo) and the trio of Japhet Mambelera, Phillip Masiye and Ben Hojani who are now all shinning at Blue Eagles.
