Other benefits the club is set to introduce will be receiving compensation after suffering career-ending injuries.

Silver acting general secretary Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda pledged that n players will be insured soon.

”The medical one will assist the players to get medical support from anywhere in the country. This will ensure that the players get the best treatment and heal quickly to help the team,” he said.

Several players have had their careers ended prematurely because of injuries sustained on playing for local clubs.

But Chakaka- Nyirenda said at Silver that will be a thing of the past.

He said the group accident insurance policy will aid players on lengthy injuries to continue enjoying the financial benefits they were receiving before getting injured.

“If a player is injured, he doesn’t receive game bonuses and training allowances. This is the time insurance providers will be releasing the funds for our players so that they don’t become destitute. If the injury ends a player’s career then he will be entitled to compensation,” he said.

General Alliance Insurance Limited business development manager Tom M’mangeni advised players to first ensure that their lives and career are protected by insurance cover before engaging themselves in any activities at club or national level.

He said they have a right “to ask for this necessity before signing any contract because it is their lives and careers that are at risk. They do not need to get carried away with the fame that comes with playing in the national team.”

M’mangeni also advised athletes to buy own accident policies.
