Silver’s Tembo speaks out on Wanderers defeat

One of the few Silver Strikers old guards remaining in the current squad Blessings Tembo has spoken out of his team’s 2-1 loss in their 2016-17 league opening match against Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.

Wanderers beat Silver at their own backyard last Sunday courtesy of a late strike from substitute Peter Wadabwa who was ejected by the Bankers last summer and was taken on board by the Lali Lubani outfit.

Tembo told Nyasa Times that he was heartbroken with the loss.

According to Tembo, even the Nomads themselves did not expect to win the match having lost all the two legs to Silver last season.

“I am very sad indeed with the loss and to me, even Wanderers themselves didn’t expect to win that match we cheaply handed them the win.” said Tembo.

He said it was bad to start the season with a loss and the most painful thing was to be punished by their former player.

“Being the first game and lose is something which is very bad and more over the scorer [of the winning goal] to be our former player eish! The pain is unbearable” he said.

However, Tembo said the Bankers will sustain the yet to come heat in the K90 million premier league.

Tembo also advised newly signed youngsters to immediately switch their altitude by forgetting whatever happened during the nomads match and forge ahead.

“We will sustain the heat but this will depend on how we will handle the Nomads loss particularly the youngsters. If they maintain with the altitude that we lost our first game then that will be a problem. We need to put our heads up and jack up because this is  a wakeup call,” advised Tembo.

Finally, Tembo apologised to Silver fans for the loss and pleaded with them not to lose heart but give the team their usual support.

“We have to be together because this is just the beginning but we will compete. Our time will come and we will give our supporters the joy they deserve” he said.

This coming Saturday, the Bankers welcome Azam Tigers who are coming from a 2-2 draw against rookies Max Bullets.

It promises to be one of the entertaining but tough encounter as both sides will be looking forward to register first win of the season.

Mighty Wanderers are currently on position one with three points just the same as Mafco and Red Lions but the nomads have a superior goal difference.
