Six men accused of illegal connection of electricity: Plead not guilty

Six men that were arrested for illegal connection of electricity contrary to section 45 subsections 1 and 2b of the electricity Act appeared in Lilongwe Chief Residence Magistrate court on Thursday.

Mike Nyirongo 32, Amos Nkhoma 41, Martians Kamphinda 35 ,29 year old Macdonald Chilungo, Phillip Nelson 40and 37 year old George Mkumba are said to have been connecting electricity in different locations in Lilongwe.

The six who pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them illegally connected electricity to not less than 14 houses in locations of Biwi, Area 25, Mchezi and Kaphiri trading center.

The men were denied bail obligations by the state on the grounds that some of them were answering similar charges in other courts while others absconded bail in another case and were on the run till they were arrested for the current charge.justice

However, Magistrate Ruth Chinangwa adjourned the case for ruling on the bail issue as the state failed to bring its eight witnesses.

Macdonald Chilongo is from Chalaghala village, T/ A Mthalile in Chitipa and Phillip Nelson hails from Ngolowindo village, T/ A Maganga in Salima while George Mkumba is from Ngulukwa village, T/ A Mkanda in Salima.
