Linda Kasenda put the Skippers on the winning trail 18 minutes into the game, tapping home a loose ball following a corner kick by Rhina Chipili.

Sunshine were back into the game after the half hour when Skippers defender Bridget Nkuzilire directed the ball into her own net after a corner kick by Sabina Thom.

Two minutes later, match-maker Orama Massa reciprocated the favour from her former team-mate as she connected Chipili’s goal-bound shot into her own net.

The Skippers’ lead was cut again eight minutes after resumption when their goalkeeper Loges Zidana failed to tame a dangerous free kick by Elube Botoman.

Sensing danger, Skippers rested ineffective Omega Kapulukila for Rachel Gonani. The sun set for DD Sunshine in the 69th minute when referee Charity Ndozi awarded Skippers a penalty after a handball by Thom. Chipili converted from the spot to make it 3-2.

Speaking after the final whistle, DD Sunshine coach Andrew ‘Aluki’ Chikhosi lavished praise on his girls for giving their former seniors a good run for their money.

“My girls were a reserve side for the team we were meeting and I am greatly impressed with their performance. There has been a great improvement and the future looks good,” said
Chikhosi.

His counterpart Lyton Mangani admitted the lads gave them a tough game but expressed happiness that his team had won the cup.

“With the background shared by the two teams, it was a game of tempers and we
made a lot of mistakes at the back. We were also not organised in midfield but the good thing is that we have won the game,” said Mangani.

For winning the cup, Skippers got K500,000 and a trophy from Donnas Eggs with Sunshine pocketing K250,000. Queen Eagles, who edged Chilinde Super Queens in the third-place play-off got K150,000.

Sunshine dominated the individual awards with their defender Chimwemwe Madise named player of the tournament while striker Temwa Chawinga emerged top goal scorer with 16 goals to her credit.
