tigersHundreds of football fans in Blantyre on Tuesday attended a victory parade to celebrate Tigers FC first Standard Bank FAM Cup final win.

Fans lined the streets of Kanjedza Township to cheer on the Kau-Kau boys, who beat Civo United 7-6 to clinch the K7 million cup.

It is the first time the Kanjedza boys have lifted the trophy for a nearly a decade.

Technical director, Robin Alufandika said: “It’s amazing. It means a lot to Kau-Kau fans who have waited for long to see the club win the trophy.”

Tigers lost sponsorship from Admarc and they have been relying on well-wishers.

The netball side, Tigresses who also lost Admarc sponsorship has been taken over by the Head of State, President Bingu wa Mutharika and they are known as Bingu Tigress.

One of the supporters of Tigers in Limbe, George Alfazema appealed to Mutharika to “complete the equation” by taking over the sponsorship of Kau-Kau boys.

“The win of FAM Cup is a great achievement for Tigers club. Kau-Kau   now deserve to get good sponsorship, perhaps President Mutharika should take over and call it Bingu Tigers,” said Alfazema.

Sammy Ngwira former player of the club and now manager said he was excited to see the club winning the cup.

“It’s fantastic. I never thought I’d see the day when the team would lift the cup again, and I’m so happy,” said Ngwira.

According to Ngwira, Tigers FC players will share 60 percent out of the K7 million Standard FAM Cup championship prize money.

  8. MalcomX says:

A big no.Teams should find long-term sponsors like business men.Politicians do not last longer.

  9. Vee says:

Dr. Bingu just sponsor the tigresses without imposing ur name. If u had a company ie Muhlako Ltd then u could put your log there as a marketing strategy. Let teams develop their independancy from government parastatals and individuals and seek honest sponsorship. Govt/Companies/individual can sponsor teams without owning them. Sies man

  10. wawa angoni says:

Kau Kau Ma tiger! You guys have proven that you don’t need a multimillionare sponsor to achieve greater things in life. You have done it, dont look back and start wondering about sponsorship. Go on winning games and playing well, someone somewhere will pick you up. Bravo Tigers
