b6b9218ddb7c25c5201b5c33a4c504e7Malawi national football team coach Kinna Phiri has promised that the Flames will fight that to the very finish of the Group E matches to ensure that the race for third position to qualify for Africa Cup of Nations in Angola will go right down to the wire.

Phiri said this after his Flames lost to Guinea 2-1 in Conakry registering three straight loses without a point and anchoring the table of the Group.

Flames will first host Guinea at the Kamuzu Stadium in September in a match that could decide either way for the two teams.

Reaching the actual World Cup is now out of reach for these two teams, but the Nations Cup is still up for grabs, and despite Malawi holding up the bottom of the rankings anything can happen.

But Kinnah insisted: “We’ll never give up. We will fight on.”

In an interview after the game broadcast live on Zodiak Radio, Kinnah could not believe the loss which he attributed to his strikers who missed several clear chances.

“We created several chances and we would have won this game by even three or four goals but I don’t know what’s wrong with my strikers that they can’t score even when the goal keeper is not there.

“We really need to sit down and see how to rectify this problem. We seriously need to change the striking force and possibly put in young players,” said a disappointed Coach in an apparent reference to Russian based Essau Kanyenda, who has failed to score in six games.

Kinnah –Malawi’s ‘Special One’ – however refused to give in saying chances of qualifying for Africa Cup of Nations in Angola next year were still there.

“Chances are still there, we just need to win them [Guinea] at home and then also win the remaining two games,” he imagined.

Kinnah said he and the backroom staff will go back to the drawing table and emphasized that the striking force will be reorganized.

“We need to sit down and draw plans. We need to sharpen the striking force and we need young blood,” said the coach.

“We have to make a bit of a change at the striking force. We are having problems nobody can deny that,” he said.

The coach who is Malawi’s celebrated striker said there is still a flicker of hope for Flames to play in African Cup of Nations finals in January.

“But we should not be afraid. We shouldn’t give up and can still dream for Angola,” he said.

According to Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) commentator Mike Bango in Conakry, Malawi was a much improved side in the game as compared to two weeks ago when they lost 1-0 to Burkina Faso at the Kamuzu Stadium.

Bango, however, bemoaned the standard of officiating by the Sudanese whistle man whose work left a lot to be desired.

Malawi’s leader of delegation in Guinea, Paul Mzungu admitted the situation for the national side is difficult.

“We are in difficult situation. We have to win other two matches and hope Guinea loses as well,” said Mzungu.

Malawi anchors the Group E with no point. Ivory Coast sits at the apex with three wins followed by Burkina Faso and Guinea.

It is high time Kinnah intoduced Atusaye Nyondo to partner Chiukepo. It is undeniably a fact that Kanyenda has now run out of steam. The best would be to leave him on the bench and introduce him later during the game.Atusaye has proved he has that appetite for the goal as shown in the few games he has played for the flames so far. It still remains a mystery as to why Peter Mgangira is never given the chance to star for the flames. He has the pace, the dribles and the skill to score which can be very useful if given a chance.

AMalawi let us be factual apa the only game we can win is against Guinea at Kamuzu and we need to win by a bigger margin then we can make it to Angola coz Guinea in its state cannot beat Ivory Coast and B/FASO. The truth is Drogba and his Ivory Coast will come and wallop us at Kamuzu stadium and there is no way we can win in B/FASO. We have to wallop Guinea by a big margin in order to get that third slot for Angola basitu!!!!!!!

this same team beat Egypt at Kamuzu stadium. I dont see why they cannot beat Cote d’ivoire and Guinea! Well, if we believe that we cannot, then we will not. Its still possible to make it to Angola.

Just as well!am patriotic but am not going to dream here, its like NewZealand dreaming of reaching the finals of the confed cup.we were not ready for this afcon people.I know people will say am pessimistic but you can see that we havent perfomed at all in the last 3 games, maybe not necessarily that we are not playing to our standards;but just because our opponents are better.imagin a situation where we go to the afcon and we lose all 3 games miserably and labelled the whipping boys of the tournament!that is more embarrasing we would rather bow out now and identify ways of making our team better for future tournaments.why is it that its almost automatic that the flames have to lose in an away game?when was the last time we came out victorious with a formidable team on an away game?Team development people the chiukepo’s must be given more exposure, the Kanyenda’s must go their untouchable days are over. There is no secret to flames success but to invest in it with our own resources PPPP (private, public and people like you and me partnership) we will smile one day

Ladies and gentlemen I write with sorrow that once again we are singing the usual song as far as our soccer is concernred..” we played well but we lost” For how long for God’s sake? Something terribly is wrong is here it needs to be dealt with critical thinking. Im asurprised that alot of folks are siding with kinna phiri’s blame on his strikers failure to score… who put these strikers who dont scorevon the pitch if i may ask? Kinna phiri himself so i think a lot of people are missing the point here.FiRE THE COACH. Really!!! malawi is the only nation which tolerates coaches failure. Where on earth have u heard that a team has lost six consecutive matches but still maintain the coaching panel? No ways its time for others to try their ideas. Its easy for kinna to put the blame on kanyenda and all this new blood thing.. when did he realise that we need new strikers and wat action did he do in his capacity as coach. Let him accept the fact that he has failed to produce expected results. yOUNG BLOOD SHD NOT APPLY TO MCP AND PLAYERS ONLY the coaching panel as well. There are promising young coaches try Bob mpinganjira he is a good coach. But the overall problem is lack of long term plans by fam to address Football development at grassroot level. U cant imagine that malawi is the only country in southern africa which does nt have a soccer academy!! Really! so where will those new blood come from? Successful teams like Ivory coast used the same channels to produce world class players like the drogbas. If we cant make some critical changes then this soccer dream will remain a mere joke. It might even be better to support those who are for a a complete abolition of the team. Lets concentrate on something we are good at…….. netball! pornography!!!

England hosts the most competitive league in the world yet they won WORLD cup 43 years ago. Liverpool boasts of the large number of supporters, they won league in 1990 (20 yrs). LETS HOPE WIN IN NEXT GAMES, OTHERWISE WE HAVE uphill task. BY THE SOCCER IS THE MOST POPULAR SPORT WORLD WIDE, LETS INVEST IN NETBALL BUT WE CANNOT AFFORD TO STOP SOCCER PARTICIPATION COZ OF LOSSES.
