Malawi beat Mozambique in CHAN qualifier

Malawi national team walloped Mozambique on Saturday 3-0 at Kamuzu Stadium in first leg of the second edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) which excludes foreign based players of the respective national sides.
Flames, as Malawi is popularly known scored through Bernard Harawa and Davie Banda in the first half.
Green Harawa scored the third goal for the Flames.
“It’s good that we have started out campaign with a win and a convincing margin,” said Coach Kinnah Phiri.
“But it is not over. We will have to focus on the return match and fly the Malawi flag high,” said the coach.
He however hailed his troops for a splendid performance before home crowds.
Meanwhile, Kinnah has tipped three senior players to take the mantle of Flames captain from Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda after his retirement as national team player.
In the CHAN match, Kinnah handed the arm band to Peter Mgangira of TNM Super league champions, Silver Strikers.
Mgangira was substituted and he gave the arm band to Maupo Msowoya.
The players tipped to lead the Flames are Nathi Lions left back, Moses ‘Luba ‘ Chavula, Flames vice captain Elvis Kafoteka and MTL Wanderers captain Harry Nyirenda.
Phiri said he is ready to appoint the captain after realising that Mponda has stood to his grounds to retire.

I didn’t know but I thought Malunga’s are originally from Chikwawa. Zinazi tiyeni tidzisiye, where ever a player comes from, if he is good enough, let him don the colours.

I am boycotting submitting comments on Nyasa Times until people stop bringing regionalism in any issue…bye till then. I cant sit and watch while we are sleep walking into a tribal clash. I guess you will not miss me. This is my way of protesting. Maybe Nyasatimes will do something about this. Even in Uk where there is freedom of press they dont allow fascist comments on mainstream media.
Big up guys we can do it all the way to the finals, for the past decade Malawi soccer has been seen by many, in the doldrums, now we can show the entire world that we are geared to meet the so called giants of soccer.Keep blazing, Malawi woyee!!
Alfred, don’t boycot. that will be like giving in to these primitive beings. as you have rightly put it, Nyasatimes should make sure that this forum remains free from such fascists by sieving through all entries that don’t add value to the forum, MWAMVA A NYASATIMES??. Many serious minded people avoid posting their otherwise mature & useful comments for fear of being ridiculed by such cheap, primitive & less enlightened individuals who first and foremost think about themselves in terms of their ethnicity/clan/tribe, religion and the other ‘icisms’. Wake up people, think big, leave that trivia. Think Malawi, One Malawi, One Nation, One goal, One purpose, One destiny. There is unity in diversity!!!
