Malawian picked for trials in LA Galaxy
A Malawian national Andrew Green [Malunga] has been selected for trials in LA Galaxy football club of USA from over 200 participants in the 2010 Galaxy Open Tryouts at The Home Depot Center.
Green, a midfielder, a son of former Malawi national team and MTL Wanderers FC midfield star, Leonard Malunga was selected together with defender Abdul Razzaq Juma.
“Over two days, the Open Tryout participants were evaluated in a series of 7v7 games in Round 1 before concluding with an 11 v 11 game against the Galaxy U-18’s in Round 2,” said the LA Galaxy on its website.
“By being selected, Green and Juma have been invited for a trial in May with the Galaxy’s U-20 team, which competes in USL Super-20 League,” the Club said.
Malawi’s US based singer, Chawezi Munthali better known by his showbiz name “Chazz Mattazz” told Nyasa Times that Malunga is helping his son in building the football career.
”Leonard is a great father to all his kids. I have seen what he does, he works hard to provide them what they need and supports their dreams,” Chazz told Nyasa Times. “Am proud of him and his kid.”
LA Galaxy said after several days of “evaluation and deliberation”, the Galaxy Open Tryouts Assessors selected Green and Juma as the two top players from the Open Tryouts based on their technical, tactical and athletic abilities.
“On day one, we looked for players that caught our eye, in particular those demonstrating elite physical condition with the speed, power and agility to compete for a roster spot, and at the players’ tactical skill, positioning and touch on the ball,” said Ralph Perez, an assistant coach with the 1990 U.S World Cup team. “We felt both Andrew and Abdul should have another chance to try and compete for a spot.”
Currently, the Malawian is training with the Hollywood United Hitmen of the Premier Development League (PDL), according to LA Galaxy.
The Open Tryouts attracted more than 200 players including wait listed players. There two players from United Kingdom, France and Mexico and United Kingdom as well as Brazil, Japan and Taiwan.

Yeah! this reminds me that we also need to be updated on Leonard Malungas’ court case after he run away some years ago because now you are reporting him as being a good father?
Choka iwe Mwene, tamusiye mzako apange celebrate za mwana wake. Iwe nkhani iyi ya mpila ikugwilizana chani ndi court case. Iwe tsilu eti!! koma akanakhala mwana wako ndiye kukamwa mweee!
Good news, but the so-called good father is still a fugitive…we cant turn a blind eye this!
And your point is what? If people could not celebrate your achievements due to the sins of your father there would be no celebrations anywhere. Make sense once in a while, the story is about the kid not the father.
Ahem….where is he? We may see a Malawian WAG soon. If he’s not into white girls already…lol!
Now that we know where He is, Malawian authorities shoul get him and bring him to justice
wawululika komwe ali bambo ameneyu amati atani luso la mwana lamuwulula interpol go konko ogwililira uja wavumbuluka..
