Silver opens Malawi title defense against Wanderers

silver-strikersSilver Strikers FC starts its campaign to defend the Malawi TNM Super League at Kamuzu Stadium against ambitious Mighty MTL Wanderers on Saturday, June 27.

According to the fixture released by Super League of Malawi (Sulom), the defending champions’ game against the Blues will be the opener for the 2009/10 season.

TNM are expected to unveil the new sponsorship package from the K50 million.

Silver first team coach Lovemore Fazili said the opening fixture is tricky.

“It does not come any tougher and we are under no illusions about how difficult it will be. But it is a challenge we are looking forward to,” said Fazili.

Wanderers who start the season under tactician Yasin Osman who rescued the club mid-last season when he was roped in after dismal performances are also geared for the title this year.

Team manager for the Lali Lubani boys, George Chamangwana admitted they have been handed a tough kick-off to the season but was optimistic they will mark the opening of their title campaign bid with good results.

“It won’t be an easy game for us by any stretch of the imagination but we are going to deliver the good results,” said Chamangwana.

Other openers include Bullets FC playing against Civo United on Sunday at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Escom United will travel up north to play Eagle Strikers at Mzuzu Stadium.

Aubrey Nankhuni, assistant coach for Escom said the electricians are geared for a good start.

“We will be looking to get off to a good start,” said the assistant to Young Chimodzi.

Dwangwa United, Nkhata Bay United, formerly Nkhata Bay Medicals and Zomba United, formerly Zomba Medicals are the comers in the country’s flagship league.
