Standard Bank partners Malawi Sri Lankan cricket family

Standard Bank is proud to announce its partnership with the Malawi Sri Lankan cricket community during this year’s Annual Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta where a Nine-a-Side tournament throws off at the Limbe Country club.

 Head of Marketing Thoko Unyolo said to support the event dubbed “Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta” Standard Bank has contributed K1.5 million towards its organisation.

 “Our partnership with the Sri Lanka cricket community is as a result of our deep understanding of the impact and contribution that Sri Lanka and its cricketers make in the world of cricket. As a bank passionate about building relationships, we are very proud to be associated with this week’s cricket fiesta,” she said.

 Unyolo said the bank is also proud to be associated with former Sri Lanka cricket star, Romesh Kaluwitharana, who the organizers are bringing during the tournament.

 “We are proud to be supporting an event where a world renowned former cricketer and champion of the Sri Lanka side that won the 1996 World Cricket Cup, Romesh Kaluwitharana will be in attendance. Such an effort will help to popularize the game of cricket in Malawi and we at Standard Bank are proud to be part of this historic event,” she said.

For his part, Niroshim Dias representing the Sri Lanka Cricket community said they have invited Kaluwitharana as part of the event’s proud tradition of developing team work and cricket skills at all layers of the game.

 “Romesh’s presence will make the event more meaningful and glamorous,” he said of the cricketer who was a batsman and wicket keeper at the 1996 World Cup and played actively between 1994 and 2004, with stints as a coach for India.

 The Sri Lanka Cricket Fiesta is in its second year. Other activities to complement the tournament include Sri Lankan music, food and children’s fun games.
