Standard Bank CEO Andrew Mashanda: Passion point

Standard Bank Chief Executive officer Andrew Mashanda said Standard Bank appreciates the medium that golf provides as a key ‘passion point’ amongst the bank’s key high net worth clients.

“We believe there is an opportunity to leverage the existing property of the Mauritius Open more broadly as a platform to engage clients as well as reinforce our commitment to Africa and Malawi in particular,” said Mashanda.

He said the winners will first participate in a special Standard Bank regional golf tournament in South Africa on July 24, before participating in the Mauritius Open later in October.

Malawi has been seeded with Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Namibia for the July 24 tournament.

Mashanda said the bank’s sponsorship audit has identified golf as a shared sport property that is held in 94 percent of Standard Bank’s markets in Africa.

“The Mauritius offer is in recognition of the important role of customers in Malawi. The Mauritius Open is one of those prestigious tournaments sponsored by the bank. It enjoys an annual rights fee of $50,000 per annum, sponsored by Standard Bank Mauritius,” he said.

The Chief Executive said Standard Bank will continue to partner golfers as a way of interacting with its high net worth and influential individuals across Corporate & Investment Banking, Commercial Banking, Private Clients and the Personal Markets.
The Standard Bank Mauritius Open is one of the most important golf events open to both amateurs and professionals in Mauritius. This year’s event is scheduled to tee-off from October 13th to 18th at Le Touessrok Golf Course on Ile aux Cerfs.

The competition includes two rounds of Pro- Am format followed by 2 rounds of Mauritius Open with Pros from the European Tour, Senior Tour, Challenge Tour, Sunshine Tour and Ladies Tour. The Open final for the Pros will take place on Saturday 18th October.

This golf event is open to Amateurs from all over the world and to Professional players who want to bring a team to the Pro-Am and participate in the Mauritius Open. This is another way of taking golf in Malawi to the next level as we make Malawi shine.
