Surestream Academy will on Saturday honour their outstanding players of the season at a gala night scheduled for Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.
Surestream Academy Technical Director Peter Mponda said the ceremony would recognize those player who have dug deeper into their reserves to help the team to earn promotion to the Super League.
Mponda, who was revered as one of the top players of his generation said he was optimistic that the youthful players would stand the heat in the top league.
However he did not divulge more information regarding the awards.
“I cannot say how much we have set aside because what we want is to recognise the outstanding players who have added value t o the team’s performance,” Mponda said.
“Every player deserves a pat on the back but there are those who have contributed a lot to the team who should recognised in special way.”
He said six awards would be conferred to outstanding players but he did not commit himself to give detailed account of categories.
The sponsor and patron of Surestream, Malawi’s first generic football academy, Chris Pittman will come from London to present the awards.
Surestream with the unique brand of football typified of European took Malawi by storm when the youngsters managed to win Malawi’s third tier title on their debut season.
They have also won Malawi’s second tier league title to make their way into the country’s top league Super League.
Most of their players formed the backbone of the Malawi Under-20 national football team.
Goalkeeper Bright Munthali has been called up into the national team in preparations for Malawi’s friendly encounter against Tanzania on March 28 in Dar-es-Salaam.Follow and Subscribe Nyasa TV :
