Talent search for U-20 players begins Sunday- FA Malawi

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has revealed that the trials and scouting of players below the age of twenty to be included in the Malawi National Under 20 Football Team begins this Sunday 6th November, 2016.

This is in readines for the Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) junior Championship scheduled to take place in South Africa from 4th to 17th December, 2016.

Fam is therefore calling upon all youths who are aged below 20 to to attend trials that will be held across the country.

“All players eligible to participate in the trials must be born on or or after 1st January 1998. The players will undergo screening before the trials commence,” reads  part of a statement released by Fam.

The players are being asked to bring over their Identification documents whether a passport, Birth Certificate, or a School ID accompaned by a suporting letter from the Head Teacher of their respective Schools.

Apart from the trials, the Under 20 coaches will also scout players at FMB Regional Finals to be played on 5th November at the Mpira Ground in the South, Dedza Ground in the Centre, Zomba Community Centre in the Eastern Region and Mzuzu Stadium in the North.

At the end of it all, only 32 players will be identified and will undergo further assessment at the Mpira Village alongside other eligibe players who are playing in the Super League.

Newly appointed Under 20 Head Coach Gerald Phiri will lead a team of four coaches that will conduct trials at the Mpira Village.

The other coaches are Trevor Kajawa, Patric Kulemeka and Leo Mpulula.

In Zomba, trials will be conducted by, FAM Technical Director John  Kaputa with assistance from Tione Mhone, Prichard Mwansa,  Moses Chimbetete, James Sawerengera and Griffin Saenda Jnr.

Fam Development Officer James Sangala will take charge of proceedings in the Central Region backed by Millias Pofera Jegwe, Dave Moya, Thoko Chimbali and Dave Mpina.

Junior Flames newly appointed Assistant Coach Enos Chatama will lead a team of coaches in the northern region together with Wakisa Mwambeteya, Lano Ikwenga and Mwayi Mwanza.

The Malawi Under 20 will make a return to the Cosafa Championship since their last participation in 2011.

They should expect a tough opposition as they have been drawn in a group of death comprising of neighbours Zambia and Zimbabwe
